Teachers marking 2020 KCSE down tools over reduced allowances

This is likely to delay the release of the results as earlier communicated by Education CS George Magoha. A source at the centre told the Standard that the teachers were set to mark the last paper (English) before they are released on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. But on getting reports that the other teachers in the 34 marking centres had been released without pay, the one in Nairobi decided to protest the move, a source told us.

Teachers new exams demands - The Standard

The examiners also wanted the transport reimbursement increased, saying the cost of travel went up due to the Covid-19 travel restrictions.

KNEC to recruit new CEO

THE STANDARD EDUCATION Outgoing KNEC CEO Dr Mercy Karogo. The Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) is recruiting a new chief executive officer. In an advert published in the papers, the board said it was looking for a firm, self-driven, results-oriented, dynamic, innovative, robust, fair and transparent leader. The new CEO will take over from Mercy Karogo, who was appointed in 2016 to restore credibility of the examinations. Dr Karogo has been the acting CEO since the then Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i executed the purge that kicked out top Council management. She was appointed alongside George Magoha as the Council chairperson, during the reign of Dr Matiang i.
