Statement from Governing Board
The Governing Board of Environment Protection Authority Victoria today announces Dr Cathy Wilkinson is stepping down from the role as the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, at the end of this week.
Dr Wilkinson became EPA’s CEO in September 2018 and has led the organisation admirably during a period of unprecedented challenges and transformation.
She has made a considerable contribution to EPA during her time as CEO. Her achievements include the development of new legislation designed to better protect the environment and has provided a stronger regulatory posture. She has overseen an increase in resources to better tackle waste crime, improved air quality monitoring through EPA’s AirWatch website, provided better guidance and engagement with industry, established programs to support local communities such as the OPLE program and establishment of dedicated metropolitan offices in Melbourne’s west and north.

Dr Cathy Wilkinson has advised me of her intention to step down as Chief Executive Officer of the Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
I would like to thank for her meaningful contribution protecting Victoria’s environment while serving in this role.
Over the past two years, Cathy has overseen the transformation of the EPA into a modern regulator, by helping shape the strong foundations the Authority needs to stop pollution and protect Victoria’s environment.
This includes establishing the Waste Crime Prevention Inspectorate which works with WorkSafe Victoria, Victoria Police, emergency services agencies, local government and other regulators to improve and streamline intelligence sharing, and prevent waste crime in Victoria.

Victoria s environmental watchdog has overturned all of the approvals it has given to landfills set to accept the West Gate Tunnel s contaminated soil, in what has been described as a monumental stuff up that has shattered the public s faith in the regulator.
The Environment Protection Authority confirmed on Thursday that it had revoked environmental approvals it gave to a further two landfills, Hi-Quality in Bulla and Cleanaway Ravenhall, which were set to accept up to 3 million tonnes of soil contaminated with chemicals known as PFAS.
