MILTON, Pa. With shovels in hand, officials with the Milton Area School District officially broke ground for the district s $12 million athletic complex. Our stadium was built in 1948, so we have really made some great strides and improvements in working towards a brand new athletic complex, Superintendent Dr. Cathy Keegan said.
The new stadium will have a turf field and an all-weather track. First of all, it s going to improve our playing, smoother ground. I think it will honestly bring more people out to come and see the games, or maybe even be a part of the band because it s a better environment, Ashley Shamblen said.
MILTON â The coronavirus pandemic impacted nearly every aspect of life in the Central Susquehanna Valley, with non-essential businesses being forced to close their doors, churches conducting services online and schools switching to virtual learning models.
With few cars passing along Broadway on March 16 in Milton, the owners of two restaurants located in the heart of the downtown business area expressed their concerns about the impact the coronavirus could have on their livelihoods.
âThis is awful, mostly for my employees,â Lisa Showers, the owner of Lisaâs Milltown Deli, said as she stood behind the counter at her business. âIâm really worried about them. We have to cut the hours just to break even.â
SUNBURY â The Northumberland County Commissioners on Thursday doled out more than $1.7 million in County Relief Block Grant (CRBG) funding through the federal CARES Act to municipalities, schools, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Commissioner Chair Sam Schiccatano said SEDA-COG accepted applications on behalf of the county from the entities applying for the funds.
After SEDA-COG reviewed the applications to see if funding criteria was met, Schiccatano said the commissioners made the final decisions on how to award the funding.
He noted that many municipalities received funding to replace radios and related equipment for police and fire personnel. This (pandemic) was a reason to improve communication, Schiccatano said. A lot of the radios that were replaced were old radios.

While a handful of Valley school districts are already full-remote learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a chance some students already learning from home could get a snow day on Thursday.
Several school officials across the region said there is some value to kids getting a break right now.
The Valley is expected to get hit by one of the largest snowstorms to hit the region in years beginning this afternoon. A foot of snow or more is expected to fall on the region.Â
Selinsgrove begins remote learning today and will do so until Christmas break begins next week. On Monday, Superintendent Frank Jankowski said a traditional snow day is an option on Thursday within the decision-making process for these types of weather events. We value the ability for kids to still have a âsnow day.
