Monticello car show revved up and ready to go despite pandemic

Back in the 1960s, Ralph Muller of Monticello rebuilt a 1937 Chevy coupe for drag racing at strips near Port Byron and Cordova in Illinois, as well as Cedar Falls and other sites. He also took it to car shows in Des Moines and Rock Island in the late ’60s as well as inside Veterans Memorial Building on May’s Island in Cedar Rapids. When his mother, Catherine Muller, suggested he start a car show in Monticello, he and two buddies did just that. Bob Oeschger of Cascade and Rick Heeren, now of Springville, joined in the effort, and the trio staged their first show in February 1970.

Amazing 52nd Year For Monticello Hot Rod Show Feb. 27th & 28th If there s a car show that s run continuously for longer than the O Reilly Auto Parts Rod & Custom Car Show in Monticello, IA. it s news to me. Since I moved to the Quad Cities in 1990, this small-town show with a big city attitude has always attracted great cars, and celebs for a little indoor sunshine when we need it most. And it was already in its 25th year! With a few adjustments for Covid-19 precautions, the Feb. 27th & 28th show will go on in it s incredible 52nd consecutive year! It s a People s Choice show with our friends Dave and Sue from 3-D Sound taking care of voting and emceeing duties.
