Kaipara mayor Dr Jason Smith believes Northlanders are being ignored by central government after yesterday s border checkpoints were reverted to their locations from last year.
Smith, also the Northland Mayoral Forum chairman, said the concerns of Tai Tokerau s local government leaders had also been dismissed by the change, given the dysfunction it caused for locals when Auckland last went into lockdown in August.

BATON ROUGE - Surgeons, doctors, and nurses shape our experiences with medicine. And over the past year, society gained a deeper appreciation for them and all they do for us in difficult times.
In Baton Rouge, a group of African-American nurses have been remembered for shaping the medical experience for black people in the area while they made a way for all black nurses to follow in their footsteps.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and when looking at picture from the more than 20 years ago Catherine Jackson feels fulfilled.

(File photo) As his colleagues expressed excitement in coming to Whangārei, Reti was hopeful the event could be held in Whangārei next year or in subsequent years. Other events to be shelved include a Medieval Madness carnival planned for Saturday at Whangārei’s Kiwi North museum. Also postponed is Te Taitokerau Regional Trade Hui planned for Kerikeri on February 2 and food and entertainment event Carnival on the Bridge planned for Whangārei on February 27.

Two Aucklanders are being treated as confirmed community Covid-19 cases by the Ministry of Health.
In a statement late last night, Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said it was likely the pair contracted the virus at their managed isolation facility, Auckland s Pullman Hotel - the same facility where it is believed the 56-year-old Northland woman contracted the virus on Saturday, causing mass testing in the region.

Northlanders were forced to wait hours at Covid-19 testing sites across Whangārei and Mangawhai as thousands swarmed to get tested yesterday.
Even with two extra testing stations at Mangawhai Domain and Pohe Island in Whangārei, anxious Northlanders had no choice but to withstand almost 30C heat as they waited in their cars.
