Savannah: Police secure injunction to stop NDC demo in Buipe LISTEN 1
Police in Savannah region has secured an injunction on a planned demonstration by the opposition National Democratic Congress on Monday, December 21, in Buipe of Central Gonja District.
The demonstration was to protest against the results of the 2020 elections as declared by the Electoral Commission.
But a court order cited by Citi News asked the party to reschedule the demonstration.
Various branches of the NDC nationwide have engaged in demonstrations in protest of the Electoral Commission’s handling of the electoral process that saw Nana Akufo-Addo declared President.
Protests have taken place in Accra, Zabzugu, Techiman South, Tamale, Kumasi, Ketu South, among others.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested 26 people for unlawfully demonstrating at the Electoral Commission (EC) Headquarters.
The arrested persons, 15 males and 11 females, were among protesters who thronged major streets in Accra to reaffirm their displeasure in the general election results declaration by the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensa.
A similar demonstration took place in the Ketu South Constituency.
A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mrs Effia Tenge, said they were engaged in unlawful acts such as burning of tyres, pelting of stones and causing heavy vehicular traffic congestion.

The Ketu South branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has hit the streets on Thursday to protest against the just ended December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Mr Desmond Kwakutsey, the Ketu South constituency secretary of the NDC indicated that the Electoral Commission (EC) must declare former President John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the elections or it will not have peace in the country.
According to him, demonstration and protests are constitutional means to register their rejection of the election results.
The electoral commission on December 9 declared Akufo-Addo as President-elect of the December 7 general elections.
But the leadership of the NDC have rejected the results describing the election as flawed.
Ketu South: Thousands of NDC supporters protest over ‘stolen election’
Thousands of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in the Ketu South constituency on Thursday took to the streets to protest against the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission over what they call a flawed election that led to the declaration of Nana Akufo-Addo as the president-elect.
According to the NDC supporters, the declaration was a stolen verdict orchestrated by the NPP and Chairperson of the EC, Madam Jean Mensa.
The protest in Ketu South comes after the Upper West Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress joined the nationwide resistance protest by party faithful against the Electoral Commission over what they term as flawed election results.
