Kent County Sheriff William Scogin said a pickup truck pulling a trailer likely hydroplaned on wet roads. Two staff members suffered minor injuries and, according to Sheriff William, a bus transporting students was not involved in the crash. The accident happened on the westbound curve of U.S. 380 just before the intersection with U.S. 208.

Law enforcement agencies in the state and across the country will try to make the dangers of such behavior clear this week in support of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April.
This annual campaign is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “U Drive. U Text. U Pay.” high-visibility enforcement effort that runs from today through Monday.
According to the Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, the state in 2019 had 18,096 distracted driving crashes, resulting in 70 fatalities. Nationwide in 2019, the number of fatalities linked to driver distraction was 3,142, or nearly 9% of all fatalities that year. This included 566 non-occupants pedestrians, bicyclists and others killed in crashes involving a distracted driver.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â Cars are becoming a favorite target of thieves, and now police across Kent County are warning residents to secure their vehicles.
Grand Rapids Police, the Kent County Sheriff s Office, and the Kent County Chiefs of Police Association issued a joint statement Friday, saying car thefts in the county has increased dramatically.
According to investigators, 19 vehicles have been stolen in Kent County in the last 7 days.
âThese are crimes of opportunity,â said GRPD Sergeant Jim Wojczynski, supervisor of the multi-jurisdictional Combined Auto Theft Team. âThese thieves are looking for unlocked vehicles and those left running. Two injured in Cedar Springs crash, one dog missing

CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. â Kent County sheriffs responded to a crash at Edgerton Avenue and Indian Lakes Road in Cedar Springs today, according to the Kent County Sheriffâs Office.
Sgt. Joy Matthews says a 20-year-old woman was driving north in a sedan when she drove through a stop sign and ran into a westbound truck.
Weâre told both of the sedanâs occupants were taken to a hospital with injuries that are considered serious but non life threatening.
Sgt. Matthews tells us alcohol was not likely a factor in the crash, adding that two dogs were involved. One of them, a Doberman mix, reportedly ran off and is still missing. We re told the other dog is okay.
