Man charged in plot against Michigan Gov. Whitmer pleads guilty, will ‘fully cooperate’

DETROIT A Hartland Township man pleaded guilty Wednesday to plotting with several others to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, securing the first conviction in a high-profile case involving violent extremism in Michigan.
Federal prosecutors revealed new details early Wednesday hours before Ty Garbin, 25, pleaded guilty in front of U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker in Grand Rapids. The kidnapping conspiracy charge is punishable by up to life in federal prison and Garbin will be sentenced July 8.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. A sex offender on probation is back behind bars, accused of offering a 14-year-old girl a T-shirt or a gaming gift card in exchange for sex.
Unbeknownst to Jeramy Lee Vanderkodde, there was no 14-year-old girl, just a Kent County sheriff’s detective playing the part.
VanderKodde was arrested when he showed up for a pre-arranged meeting – gaming gift card in hand.
Wyoming Public Safety investigating burglary, arson at engine repair shop

WYOMING, Mich. â The Wyoming Department of Public Safety is investigating a burglary and possible arson that occurred at an engine repair shop over the weekend.
Around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 17, Wyoming firefighters responded to a fire at Austin-Jordan Engines (4259 Clyde Park SW).
Investigators found that the shop, which suffered extensive damage from the fire, had been burglarized and purposefully set afire before the suspect took off in a stolen car.
Man sentenced in case involving woman body-slammed, given brain injury

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â A man has been sentenced in a case involving a woman being âbody-slammedâ due to road rage in a Starbucks parking lot earlier this year, Kent County Prosecutor Christopher Becker said.
Eric Anthony Alvarez was sentenced Wednesday to 321 days in Kent County Jail, five years of probation and restitution for Samantha Sutherlinâs medical expenses.
Those expenses amount to about $391,000, according to Becker.
On Thursday, Feb. 13, police were called to a fight happening in the Starbucks parking lot off of Alpine Avenue in Walker. Police say some sort of crash may have happened prior to the fight.
