KCDSB adding new Student Trustee to represent FNMI students - KenoraOnline: Kenora, Ontario s latest news, sports, weather, community events

Article continues below advertisement ↴ The Kenora Catholic District School Board is continuing efforts to improve success and well-being and engagement for its First Nation, Métis and Indigenous students. The Board met this week and have chosen unanimously to add a third and permanent Student Trustee position, who will represent the voice and perspective of FNMI students across the region. “Indigenous education and reconciliation are key priorities for the Kenora Catholic District School Board. Our FNMI student population is over 40 per cent, and it’s important that all students have a voice, are represented and that Indigenous student perspective is well-reflected in Board decisions,” says Chair of the Board, Teresa Gallik.

Feds, Province Partner For School Upgrades

The federal government is spending $525.5 million to protect students and staff from COVID-19 in Ontario schools. The Keewatin-Patricia District School is receiving $1.25 million, while $137 thousand has been earmarked for the Kenora Catholic District School Board. Catherine McKenna, the Federal Minister of Infrastructure, admits schools need immediate assistance. “It’s a great partnership with the Province of Ontario,” says McKenna, “These projects will improve air quality in classrooms, install more hand washing stations, and support better physical distancing.” Ontario’s Education Minister, Stephen Lecce, adds that this new round of funding isn’t just for issues faced today. “It will allow us to look forward to continuing building upon the investments Ontario has made to improve the safety of schools, the facilities that house our children, and allow our students and staff to learn every day.”

Early Years Arts Festival For Kids In Red Lake/Ear Falls/Kenora

Dryden, ON, Canada / CKDR Feb 25, 2021 8:37 AM Families in Red Lake, Ear Falls, and Kenora are being urged to sign-up today for the Early Years Arts Festival. The four day event is hosted by the Kenora Catholic District School Board. The annual festival is usually just one day but is being expanded to a virtual platform this year because of COVID-19. The free sessions are every Sunday at 11:00 am for the month of March. Early Years Coordinator Marnie Buffett was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show Thursday and she promised a great four days. “Two of the artists from Red Lake actually sent me a recording of the activity they are planning on doing for the event and so my daughter and I decided to check it out and I can honostly say it was such a blast. The artists had us up and dancing and creating and we were laughing.”
