Catawba couple widely promote Covid-19 vaccinations

Famed Tuskegee Airman Harold Brown and his wife, Marsha Bordner, of Catawba Island will happily check in at Magruder hospital on Monday, Feb. 22 to get vaccinated for Covid-19 for the second and final time. They are also adamant that when it’s your turn, you should follow suit.

Port Clinton, Ohio Anglers are beginning to get on the ice off the mainland on Lake Erie.
It’s been a couple of years since good ice formed off the mainland on the lake, but a sub-freezing cold snap at the beginning of February has served to firm things up a bit this year.

CLEVELAND, Ohio Some of the ponds and small lakes are covered with ice now, but beware when heading out on the frozen surface to catch bluegills or yellow perch.
If you’re thinking of testing the Lake Erie ice west of Catawba Island, as a few were doing on Thursday, think again. From all reports, that ice is too thin, very unstable, and will be battered by southwest gale winds up to 35 knots Friday, and westerly gale winds on Saturday.

Richard Davenport’s sons grew tall on Catawba Island, just like the orchards there. The late Jim Davenport is easy to spot in the front row of his U.S. Army platoon.

Catawba Island Township honored two of its U.S. Army war heroes this week with a Catawba Island Township Veterans Memorial Highway Marker for Vietnam War hero James M. Davenport and World War II hero William Galloway.
Chris Christen, director of operations for Freedom Boat Club Lake Erie, shows a bait dip net that one angler mistakenly thought was a tiny landing net aboard one of the Sea Fox vessels in the club s rental fleet. Freedom Boat Club will operate at the former Gerbick Motors offices and shop at 1600 Colorado Ave., Lorain and at the Oasis Marinas Port Lorain, renting boats to members in summer 2021.
