WA Notify app is working to alert users of coronavirus exposures, but no data on how well [The Seattle Times]
Dec. 31 About 1.6 million people, more than one-quarter of Washington’s adult population, have activated or downloaded the WA Notify smartphone app that aims to let people know if they may have been exposed to the coronavirus, the state Department of Health (DOH) said this week.
The app is active and is sending notifications to people who may have been exposed, but the state does not have reliable data on how many times the app has been used to alert people or on how many people have been alerted.

It stands to reason that all the stress, anxiety and isolation of the pandemic could lead more people to take their own lives. But newly obtained data for Oregon and Washington show this is one bad thing that 2020 has not delivered.
Public health agencies and suicide prevention groups have been keeping an eye out since spring for a possible rise in suicides. Based on preliminary data, Oregon has
not seen an increase in the number of suicides for the first nine months of 2020 when compared to the same time period in 2019, wrote Oregon Health Authority communications officer Aria Seligmann in an email.
Kat Cole joined the company in 2010.
