Chicago tech CEO arrested for unlawful entry at US Capitol riots

Rukstales from Inverness, Illinois, has been the CEO of Cogensia, a Chicago-area marketing data company, for 19 years, per his LinkedIn profile. In a statement, Rukstales apologized for entering the Capitol, calling it the single worst personal decision of my life. At the riots in Washington, DC, which were egged on by repeated false claims by President Trump that the election was stolen from him, thousands of the president s supporters violently clashed with police and stormed the US Capitol Building, leaving behind broken windows and vandalized offices.

Elsaventer Branch, 39, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of aggravated battery to a peace officer, a Class 2 felony. Branch was sentenced to four years in prison by Associate Judge Ron Slemer. On Nov. 20, Branch was identified in a surveillance video for reports of theft at a CVS store at 2422 College Ave. When Alton Police arrived at the defendant’s house, Branch began to flee but was captured. During his arrest, Branch punched the arresting officer in his face. The officer suffered no serious injuries.
