POTSDAM â Without comment, the Village Board of Trustees approved an ordinance that allows village residents to keep chickens.
A similar ordinance failed in 2011. Another in July of 2020 was rejected and sent back to the planning board to be simplified.
There are a number of provisions to the ordinance that was passed Monday afternoon.
No more than six chickens will be allowed for each property, renters must have authorization from property owners, coops or cages must be at least 25 feet from neighborsâ doors and windows and five feet from property lines, and hens must be in a coop or cage that has adequate protection from weather and predators.
Over the past two weeks, the publicly-traded solid waste companies reported first quarter earnings and a number of them updated guidance. In this month’s edition of
Business Report, we present highlights and takeaways from the reports and follow-up conference calls.
Price Strength Surprises; More Volume to Come
Waste Management (WM), Waste Connections (WCN) and GFL Environmental (GFL) all reported yield or price growth above expectations and at the high end or above their own full year guidance. A disciplined pricing environment, returning volumes, lower churn and better retention were all credited. Republic Services (RSG) and Casella Waste (CWST) reported yield or pricing results modestly below full year expectations or at the low end of their range at 2.3% and 3.4%, respectively, but both companies noted timing issues and the expectation that pricing would accelerate during the course of the year, with RSG reconfirming its confidence in its full year target of 2.5%.

CONCORD Conflicting interests collided Monday over a bill to require a two-mile buffer between a state park and a landfill.
Although the bill does not target a specific project, residents of a North Country community fought their local battle over a proposed landfill that would be close to Forest Lake State Park before a Senate committee.
The division within Dalton over the Casella Waste proposed landfill reflects the split between competing state interests as environmental groups supported House Bill 177, while professional engineering and design groups supported the project along with a lineup of Casella officials.
