Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh on Tuesday released the maiden issue of Illumino, an e-bulletin published by the AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE).
The Minister appreciated the APSCHE’s role in ushering in reforms in the higher education sector through initiatives like re-designing the curriculum for engineering and conventional degree programmes, online admission for conventional degree programmes, establishment of Quality Assurance Cell for guiding the higher education institutions towards assessment and accreditation by the NAAC.
Special Chief Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Satish Chandra, said the e-bulletin would be helpful for students and academicians to keep abreast of the changing scenario in the higher education sector.
VPT grosses up 69.84 million tonnes in 20-21
The Visakhapatnam Port Trust grossed up 69.84 million tonnes for the fiscal 2020-21, which is about 4% less than that of the previous year’s 72.72 million tonnes.
Of the 69.84 MT, about 38.73 MT were imports and 30.08 MT were export cargoes. The remaining was under transhipment, as year the closed.
Addressing the annual press conference here on Saturday, the Chairman of VPT, K. Rama Mohana Rao, said that despite COVID-19 pandemic hitting the all-round trade, the port was able to come close to its target and was successful in keeping its third position among major ports intact for the second successive year. This was also the third highest annual cargo throughput achieved by VPT since its inception.

‘A state-of-the-art cold storage facility with a fish processing centre will be developed’
The proposed modernisation of the fishing harbour is on course and the Union government has already sanctioned ₹100 crore for it.
The Union government has also assured to scale up the sanction to ₹150 crore, if the modernisation proves profitable to the fishing community and value is added to the existing facility, said Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman K. Rama Mohana Rao.
VPT handles 69.84 million tonnes of cargo during FY2020-21
Visakhapatnam, Apr 3 (UNI) Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) has handled 69.84 million tonnes of cargo during the fiscal 2020-21.
The VPT recorded a shortfall of about three million tonnes during the financial year 2020-21 as against 72.72 million tonnes achieved during the previous fiscal, VPT Chairman K Rama Mohana Rao said at a press conference here on Saturday.
Though the Port Trust had shown its resilience against severe disruption in supply chains and economic downturn due to COVID-19 pandemic, it maintained third position among major ports for the second consecutive year, he said.
The Chairman said the VPT could restrict the decline to four percent whereas the decline recorded 7 per cent in all major ports in the country.
