Lawyer targeting Nicola Sturgeon likens SNP to Nazis in Twitter slur

A SPECIALIST solicitor who uses her prolific social media activity to regularly slag off Nicola Sturgeon, her party and the Scottish Government generally, has likened the SNP to the Nazis. Janet Hood, who runs a training and consultancy business from Brechin in Angus, claims to be one of Scotland’s top licensing solicitors with more than 30 years of experience in the field. Her Twitter activity includes regular retweets of material from Tory party figures and journalists, as well as tweets from would-be politicians, keen football fans and RT broadcaster George Galloway. Hood also appears to be a fan of Graham Grant, home affairs editor of the Daily Mail’s Scottish edition. He tweeted on Monday about what he called “A day of shame” for the SNP after Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill MP Steven Bonnar, was criticised for allegedly saying “nationalists were prepared to fight to the death for our country”.

Forest and Bird on Mt Messenger Bypass: Sacrificing nature for human convenience

Artist impression of the Mt Messenger bypass project s southern tunnel entrance. Photo: Supplied The $200 million project is inching closer to a start date after a High Court appeal against re-routing the highway through the Mangapēpeke Valley was lost earlier in December. Forest and Bird chief executive Kevin Hague said he was not a party to this appeal, but had opposed the bypass from the beginning. We are sad about the outcome but the outcome does seem to be settled now. We don t think we can change it, Hague said. For us, it is another example of nature once again giving way to kind of human endeavour and we ve just lost so much we actually can t afford to keep sacrificing nature for human convenience, which is exactly what the bypass is about.

Letters: The compelling argument for a free national care service

IN January 2021 the Scottish Government is to publish the findings of a review into social care in Scotland. In the outline we read that it will take a “human rights-based” approach to the issue. Nicola Sturgeon has said that the Government’s response will include considering the possibility of a National Care Service, but what is not spoken of is how such a service is to be funded. In response to an open invitation the Scottish Socialist Party has submitted a paper outlining our vision of a National Care Service, namely that it should be publicly run and funded and, crucially, free at the point of need.

Letters: Lord Foulkes is playing politics with people s lives

Foulkes has raised concerns that Sturgeon’s regular coronavirus briefings breach impartiality rules IN times of national crisis like this, it’s vital that a nation’s leader communicates with its citizens. Nicola Sturgeon has done so steadfastly and with clarity, and she has demonstrated empathy and understanding for the difficulties that Covid has caused us all. The contrast with Boris Johnson is obvious. So (the dreaded “so” at the start of a sentence), it’s outrageous for Lord George Foulkes, Labour member of that unelected House, to put pressure on Ofcom and the BBC to stop coverage of the First Minister’s coronavirus briefings.
