Theme parks looking to hire more workers to return to normal operating hours

Theme parks across the country are experiencing worker shortages, including family favorites right here in the DMV.
While families are excited to return to normal activities this summer, hiring challenges may make it more difficult to visit some theme parks.
Kings Dominion is closed on select weekdays and hours are shorter compared to previous years. Busch Gardens is open daily, but also operating at shorter hours.
Dennis Speigel, Owner & Founder of International Theme Park Services, said some of this is driven by COVID-19 and some of it is parent-driven since high school and college students typically work at the parks.
“Our staffing is so short, most of our pools are going open on a rotating basis basically open one week, closed the next, so I can divide my staff to make sure everyone gets some pool time,” said Jim Durkee, vice president of AAA Pool Services, which manages 50 commercial pools around Hampton Roads.

WILLIAMSBURG It’s the most wonderful time of the year despite 2020 being shrouded in a pandemic.
Somehow, Busch Gardens Williamsburg seems to be keeping the holiday spark alive, and it’s all thanks to their Christmas Celebration.
