Pittsfield City Councilor Persip To Seek Third Term

At-large Pittsfield, Massachusetts city councilor Earl Persip says he’ll seek a third two-year term.  Persip says he’s most proud of his support for economic development in Berkshire County’s largest city, and that he wants to continue helping to steer Pittsfield through its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. “People watch me on the meetings, they know I’m a reasonable person willing to work with anybody and bring a calm sensibility to the discussion on any issue,” he told WAMC. Three of the 11 city councilors – Ward 2’s Kevin Morandi, Ward 3’s Nick Caccamo and Ward 4’s Chris Connell – have said they will not seek re-election this year. The preliminary election is September 14th, and the general is November 2nd.

PITTSFIELD â€” Kevin Sherman, a familiar face around City Council chambers, has announced he’ll be running to replace the outgoing councilor in Ward 3. “After much consideration and conversations with my family, I’m excited to announce that I will be running for Pittsfield Ward 3 City Councilor in 2021,” Sherman wrote Wednesday in a Facebook post accompanying a photo of John F. Kennedy and daughter Caroline. “Now is the time for us all to ante up,” he wrote in later in his announcement, to do our part and share our individual skills for the collective good of our community.” PITTSFIELD — With a third city councilor opting not to seek reelection, the field of incumbents running in this fall’s election has narrowed.

Pittsfield Council OKs $960K for Infrastructure Benefiting Bousquet

PITTSFIELD, Mass. The City Council on Tuesday approved an appropriation of $960,000 in Pittsfield Economic Development funds for infrastructure improvements on Dan Fox Drive. The motion passed 10-1 with Ward 4 Councilor Christopher Connell voting against. These funds will go toward the extension of water and sewer lines along Dan Fox Drive, connecting the lines immediately to Bousquet Mountain. Though Bousquet is an immediate part of the equation, these improvements will make the area capable of handling future growth and is purposed to promote the much needed development. The ski area s new owners Mill Town Capital plan to demolish Bousquet s existing base area because it is dramatically out of code and build a new $5 million one in its place but are not able to move forward with the project depending on well water and a faulty sewage system.

Pittsfield Council Says No to Pay As You Throw Trash

Now is not the time to be talking trash during a pandemic, Ward 2 Councilor Kevin Morandi said.   At a second Committee of the Whole meeting, the council on Wednesday debated the proposed PAYT solid waste system for more than three hours and eventually voted to table it 7-4 with Morandi, Ward 4 Councilor Chris Connell, Ward 5 Councilor Patrick Kavey, and Ward 7 Councilor Anthony Maffuccio opposing.   Morandi, Connell, and Maffuccio have vocalized their stance against the PAYT system in the past and, last week, Morandi and Connell requested that the Resource Recovery Committee send back a 2019 recycling education plan that was first drafted by the councilors in 2018.
