Gaston man who killed family by driving into restaurant faces fate

Starting Tuesday, a judge tasked with determining an appropriate punishment will begin to hear evidence in a case that garnered international attention. When he bought the gun, he had thoughts of suicide or homicide toward his own family, according to a search warrant affidavit connected to the case.

Gaston man convicted of raping child 56 years ago now seeks parole

A Gaston County man convicted of raping an 8-year-old girl more than 50 years ago could soon win his freedom based upon the outcome of a parole hearing. Robert Turner, who turns 78 in July, was sentenced to life in prison in March 1966 after a Gaston County jury convicted him of first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping, according to records with the Department of Correction. He received the life sentence on the rape conviction. In March of this year, the N.C. Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission reported it would consider granting Turner parole. Turner has tried in the past to win his freedom by arguing he did not have a fair trial.
