Of the many ways to mark Black History Month, Turner Classic Movies has an expected but relevant one.
Each February, the channel showcases standout work presented this year under the umbrella title “Noteworthy African American Performances.” The Jacqueline Stewart-hosted series will run on Wednesday nights and very early Thursday mornings throughout the month, and here s a look at some of the talents and attractions to be spotlighted.

Cicely Tyson, the award-winning actress who trailblazed a career across several decades and appeared in countless TV shows, films and Broadway plays, died Thursday at age 96, according to her manager. Tyson s role as a sharecropper s wife in the film Sounder landed her an Oscar nomination in 1973.
