A COMIC book writer moves through her city becoming the vigilante character she’s imagined. Sara Shaarawi’s heroine Hana sees a goddess standing over skyscrapers as she attempts to right the wrongs of the male violence she sees in the public spaces of sprawling, metropolitan Cairo. Now Scottish audiences are to walk in the character’s footsteps as Shaarawi’s work premieres on the streets of five Scottish cities at once. The pavements of her adopted home town Glasgow will play host to Niqabi Ninja next month, alongside those of Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Inverness. Wearing headphones, audiences will listen to a pre-recorded audio version of the play while following a trail in which they’ll encounter panels from the fictional comic Hana’s working on.
