As the third season winner of NBC’s “The Sing-Off,” the charming acapella quintet began posting on YouTube in 2012 and gained a mass following for creatively covering charting hits and classics. Now, nearly ten years after first forming, Pentatonix is back with its second original album The Lucky Ones. As a whole, The Lucky Ones is an easy, effortless listen. Though the pop album is undoubtedly authentic, it’s an unfortunate example of how authenticity isn’t always equivalent to creativity. Relatively few of the album’s 11 tracks stand out as noteworthy essentially, if you’ve heard one Pentatonix song before, it’s not very difficult to imagine how this album sounds.
