Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers is recovering from successful quintuple bypass heart surgery. His doctors expect him to make a full recovery and to release him the week of Feb. 7.Â
The mayor had the surgery on Feb. 4 after being admitted to St. Josephâs Hospital & Medical Center on Feb. 1, following a visit to a local urgent care.Â
In the meantime, Vice Mayor Ian Hugh, will continue to fill in as dictated by the city charter, to ensure smooth city operations.
âI canât thank everyone enough for all the messages to both Sandy and I, wishing me all the best throughout this tough situation,â Weiers said.Â

Police are seeking the public’s help in locating 51-year-old Kevin Phelps.
Detroit police said Phelps was last seen on Dec. 30 at a family function in the 800 block of Oakman Boulevard.

Police said Phelps is known to frequent the area of West McNichols Road and Hamilton Avenue.

Super Bowl LVII is scheduled for Feb. 5, 2023, at State Farm Stadium. This will be the third time the city has hosted the biggest party in sports, with previous Glendale Super Bowls in 2008 and 2015.
In 2023, âI think any repeat visitors will be blown away,â said veteran Councilwoman Joyce Clark.Â
