BELLEVUE, WA Traffic safety experts are sharing a few safety reminders for families with younger drivers as Washington enters the summer months that are typically most dangerous for teens on the road. Known as the 100 Deadliest Days, AAA said more than half of the deaths involving teen drivers happen between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Summer presents a particularly dangerous stretch for teen drivers who have more time to spend behind the wheel, yet lack the experience, skills and maturity of more seasoned drivers, AAA wrote. AAA encourages parents to help reduce crash risks during these 100 Deadliest Days by modeling safe driving behaviors and ensuring their teens adopt them.

With more than 9,500 gas stations along the East Coast out of fuel Wednesday following the cyberattack earlier this month that temporarily shut down the Colonial Pipeline, fuel supplies remain at normal levels in Washington and Idaho headed into the Memorial Day travel period next week.

Parts of the southeast United States have reported gas shortages and rising prices in the wake of a ransomware attack on the Georgia-based Colonial Pipeline. While it may seem logical to attribute similarly rising prices in Washington to that attack as well, it’s actually a different story entirely on the West Coast.
According to data from AAA Washington, the state’s gas prices are up more than a dollar year-over-year. While that may seem significant, it’s less due to a far-off pipeline and more the product of 2020 being an outlier of a year.
