April is Distracted Driver Awareness Month

Distractions are not limited to cellular phones. Other electronics, children, pets, and eating or drinking while driving can also divert attention and result in a crash. –The California Highway Patrol (CHP), California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), and Impact Teen Drivers (ITD) are working together this April to remind Californians of the dangers of not giving the road their full attention when behind the wheel as part of Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports 3,142 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2019 nationwide. That same year in California, there were at least 18,698 crashes from distracted driving that resulted in 108 deaths and more than 13,500 injuries.

(PRWEB) December 17, 2020 Student artists across the country have won over $10,000 in educational grants through the 2020 Fall Create Real Impact Contest, sponsored by Impact Teen Drivers and California Casualty. The Create Real Impact Contest gives enrolled students, ages 14 to 22, the opportunity to win prizes for their original works (creative writing, video, graphic design, or music) showcasing creative solutions for preventing the #1 killer of their peers – reckless and distracted driving.

Support grows and broadens for Madison Eagle Christmas Fund

Madison Eagle Christmas Fund broadly this year. On Wednesday, Dec. 2, Stacey Smollen, co-chair of MECF, accepted a $300 donation from Madison heART art classes and the East Coast Elf Conference 2020. Smollen says she was honored to receive the check directly from one of the elves. Then, on Nov. 27, “Crafted of Madison”, a craft studio for creative kids, organized an outdoor event in support of the MECF. Children and their families set out blankets on a warm winter’s day to make festive holiday ornaments. Crafted designed and supplied the makings of these ornaments, and ensured a portion of the proceeds went to support the MECF.
