Republicans looking to undermine an investigation into January 6 are returning to a familiar playbook for the GOP: invoking Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
After Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois joined Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyomingin becoming the lone Republicans to serve on the select committee, the GOP started to ramp up its attacks on the duo, accusing them of harboring an anti-Trump agenda and suggesting they’re just doing the speaker’s bidding. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy even debuted a new label on Monday, tagging Kinzinger and Cheney as “Pelosi Republicans.”

On the eve of the first scheduled meeting of the House select committee to investigate the Jan. 6 riot, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made a last-ditch effort to seat the Republicans who House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected from the committee.
The Republican speaker on Monday evening brought a privileged resolution to the floor to condemn Pelosi s refusal and urge her to seat all five of his picks: Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana as ranking member, along with Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio, Rodney Davis of Illinois, Troy Nehls of Texas, and Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota.
Democrats blocked the attempt, succeeding with a motion to table the legislation 218-197.
WASHINGTON (AP) â Unfazed by GOP threats of a boycott, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared Thursday that a congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol will take on its âdeadly seriousâ work whether Republicans participate or not.
The Republicansâ House leader, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, called the committee a âsham processâ and suggested that GOP lawmakers who take part in it could face consequences. McCarthy said Pelosiâs rejection of two of the Republicans he had attempted to appoint to the panel was an âegregious abuse of power.â
The escalating tension between the two parties is emblematic of partisan anger that has seemingly only worsened on Capitol Hill since former President Donald Trumpâs supporters laid siege to the Capitol and interrupted the certification of President Bidenâs victory.
