A White Woman Hit Protesters With Her Car in Elizabeth City. Now Police Are Considering Hate Crime Charges.

A group of peaceful protesters chanting the name of Andrew Brown Jr.âwhose killing police say was justified because Brown nearly struck deputies with his car while attempting to flee arrest last monthâwere marching down an Elizabeth City street Thursday when a white woman drove her car into them, sending two to the hospital.Â
One protester, a Black woman in her 40s, was dragged to the ground as the driver attempted to flee. She and another protester were taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.Â

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. Elizabeth City police arrested a woman Monday night who they say used her car as a weapon to strike two peaceful protestors marching for Andrew Brown, Jr.
Police said the two pedestrians were peacefully protesting and exercising their constitutional rights at the time of the 6:45 p.m. crash at the intersection of Ehringhaus Street and Griffin Street.
Lisa Michelle O Quinn, 41, from Greenville, North Carolina was arrested and charged with two felonious counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill by the use of a motor vehicle; one count of Careless and Reckless, and one count of Unsafe Movement.
