White’s Ferry Purchased Following Service Shutdown; New Owner Plans to Resume Service
White’s Ferry has been purchased following a legal dispute that led to a service shutdown late December, according to a statement Friday evening.
Chuck Kuhn, CEO of the Sterling-based company JK Moving Services, and his wife, Stacy Kuhn, finalized the purchase terms Thursday. The deal includes the ferry, store and Maryland shoreline that facilitates operation, the statement says. On Dec. 28, 2020, White’s Ferry announced it would stop service effective immediately following a legal dispute between White’s Ferry, Inc. and Rockland Farm, LLC. A November court ruling found that there is no legally established public or private landing on Rockland Farm, the Virginia property where the ferry operates. A Christchurch man who brutally beat an elderly service station worker after taking illicit drugs has been granted a discharge without conviction and permanent name suppression after the court accepted his defence of automatism.

POOLESVILLE, Md. â âI work in Virginia, and have always worked in Virginia. The ferry has always been my way into Virginia,â said Karla Berger, a health care worker at a hospital in Virginia.
But she lives across the Potomac River, in Poolesville, Maryland.
The fastest way for her to get to work is Whiteâs Ferry.
âIt is a major transportation link,â said Kerri Cook, the president of the Poolesville Town Council.
âSomewhere between 600 and 800 cars a day,â said Cook.

Companies should act now to find candidates before the new deadline, according to Dale Robinson, head of business development at The Source Skills Academy.
He added: “The government hopes this extra time will encourage more companies to give a career chance to young people left jobless as a result of the pandemic.”
The Source helps employers access funds and candidates and has a pool of people it has trained to make them ‘apprenticeship-ready’, he added. It has placed more than 100 since the first lockdown in March.
