Double murder trial begins in Lafourche
A double murder trial is underway in Lafourche for a Raceland man accused of shooting two men to death in 2018.
Kerry Alexander, 36, is facing two counts of second-degree murder in the Dec. 15, 2018, shooting deaths of 26-year-old Marcel Turner, of Thibodaux, and 23-year-old Jeremiah Ballard, of Raceland.
The defendant’s brother, Jerrell Alexander, 31, was convicted in the murders Dec. 19, 2019, and was sentenced to life in prison.
If convicted, Kerry Alexander faces a mandatory life sentence without probation, parole or early release. To convict, the jury must be unanimous.
In his opening statement Monday, Assistant District Attorney Shaun George told the jury the shootings occurred in broad daylight.
