The Orlando Pride used their third-round pick (No. 24 overall) to select versatile Penn State forward Kerry Abello. The fact that the Penn State website lists Abello as a forward/midfielder/defender should be an indication of her ability to adapt to wherever the team needs her play.
“When we looked at Kerry it was about meeting needs for the ability to change formations quickly,” Orlando Pride Head Coach Marc Skinner said via Zoom between his team’s third- and fourth-round picks.

Happy Thursday, Lionesses and Lions. As always, I hope you overcame your hump day with ease. As usual, there has been a fair amount of happenings occurring within the soccer-sphere so let’s get right into the links.
Robin Jansson Signs New Contract
Orlando City defender Robin Jansson has signed a new contract with Orlando City. The Beefy Swede put pen to paper on a new two-year deal that possesses options for 2023 and 2024. The 29-year-old signing a new deal has Luiz Muzzi and many supporters alike excited. The Orlando City EVP of soccer operations stated that having a back line as solid as last campaign’s is pivotal for success again.
The New York native made the most of her first and only year in Happy Valley, scoring 11 goals and tallying 10 assists in 25 appearances, leading Penn State to a Sweet Sixteen run at the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
“I am so honored to have been drafted tonight by the Portland Thorns. Though I never could’ve drawn up these exact circumstances, tonight fulfilled my lifelong dream of pursuing a professional soccer career,” Coffey said. “I am so thankful for this incredible opportunity. With that being said, all of my focus now is on winning a national championship with my Penn State women’s soccer family this spring. This team has some unfinished business to attend to! Go Thorns & Go State!”
