Man airlifted to hospital after Wester Ross kayak drama on Loch Maree in the Highlands By Val Sweeney

A man was flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness yesterday after his kayak overturned in a Wester Ross loch.
The alarm was raised just after noon that the kayaker had fallen into the water at Loch Maree.
Coastguard rescue teams from Gairloch and Loch Ewe attended the scene along with the search and rescue helicopter from Inverness, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service and Police Scotland.

With the shadow of Covid-19 still looming over the festive season, we decided to take a look back to last Christmas in a special countdown feature.
Pupils at Gairloch Primary School decided to take on the task of displaying a Christmas tree for the village in their garden by the roadside. They wrote to local businesses asking them to sponsor the tree and bought lights and baubles.

The adventure that started with a jokey comment over drinks whilst on holiday in the sun in 2016, has led this couple on a rollercoaster of a journey, far beyond anything they had vaguely expected.
They had been enjoying a well-earned break after a busy summer season running their bed and breakfast business at Aird Hill in Badachro, Wester Ross.
Previously, in 2007, they had escaped from the rat race and expat life, and settled in Badachro, with the intention of enjoying a slower pace of life. Oh, really?!
