Leftist Dark Money Groups Silent on Donor Disclosure Despite Support for H.R. 1, Election Transparency

Leftist dark money groups such as the Sixteen Thirty Fund, New Venture Fund, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV), and others have remained silent on calls to disclose their donors even though they have publicly backed legislation that would provide for the disclosure of dark money groups’ donors and made public statements calling for donor transparency.
Breitbart News reported that Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) has served as one of the most vocal Democrat critics of “dark money’s” influence in politics, but the Rhode Island Democrat appears to be a significant beneficiary of dark money.

Several right-wing advocacy groups are campaigning against two of President Joe Biden s nominees, reprising the Right s previous attacks on health care expansion and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Groups including the Judicial Crisis Network (JCN), the Heritage Foundation s political arm, and the recently established Americans for Public Trust (APT) are spending millions of dollars on TV and digital ads that began running on Feb. 19. The groups are reportedly trying to repeat the tactics and successes of the Right s advocacy efforts to get Donald Trump s Supreme Court nominees confirmed, efforts led by JCN and other groups in the network of former Federalist Society executive Leonard Leo.
The embattled Never Trump gang The Lincoln Project appears to be just about done, with calls coming from enemies and allies alike to shutter operations and close shop in light of allegations the group used much of the money they took in to pay themselves and knowingly employed a sexual predator.
But before they become a footnote in the Trump era of American politics, let’s examine how this cadre of so-called true conservatives operated because their clumsiness in financial matters is instructive of how modern politics operates in general, particularly as it relates to payment for policy promotion. The story of The Lincoln Project offers more than a little justification for the public’s distrust of the political process.

Judicial Crisis Network, Heritage Action for America, and Americans for Public Trust on Thursday announced a more than $2 million joint media and grassroots campaign against two of President Joe Biden’s senior nominees: Xavier Becerra for secretary of Health and Human Services and Vanita Gupta for associate attorney general.
The campaign focuses on the dark money that continues to flow into prominent Democrats’ hands, through radical organizations such as Arabella Advisors. The advocacy group effort is directly targeting “pay-to-play,” a strategy that permits campaign contributions from businesses or enterprises seeking government contracts.
