Kamla: Opposition wants to work with Govt against COVID-19

Form a united front and let’s all work together for T&T s sake.
That’s the challenge from Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar to the Government to have all entities – unions, private sector, business, Opposition, NGOs – work together against the COVID pandemic.
Persad-Bissessar, who’d made a similar call recently, reinforced it again at last night’s UNC Monday forum meeting after Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh earlier in the day called out the Opposition on a newspaper editorial that called for all to work together in T&T s trying times against the virus.

T&T must not be in ‘guinea pig’ situation

T&T must be cautious about becoming part of a “guinea pig” programme involving use of a drug that only has emergency licence approval, UNC MP Roodal Moonilal has warned.
Moonilal spoke after yesterday’s Government media briefing.
Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said arrangements are being made with Sinopharm to get 100,000 vaccines after that company got an emergency license approval for its vaccine use.
Khan’s funeral on Saturday amid restrictions

The funeral of late Energy Minister Franklin Khan will take place on Saturday at the Aramalaya Presbyterian Church in Tunapuna, under COVID-19 protocols which will allow only 10 people at the service.
The 10 am funeral will be under official arrangements by the Government and will involve the Defence Force.
The time was confirmed yesterday by Khan’s wife, Laura Sewlal-Khan.
Rowley writes Biden on providing AstraZeneca vaccines for Caricom, T&T

With increasing Brazilian variant COVID cases, Caricom chairman T&T Prime Minister Keith Rowley has written follow-up correspondence to US President Joe Biden on providing AstraZeneca vaccines for Caricom and T&T.
And the Foreign Affairs Ministry says it is early days yet on the issue.
Foreign Affairs Minister Amery Browne spoke about the matter yesterday when asked by Guardian Media for an update on the US vaccines.
The Trinidad and Tobago Guardian is the longest running daily newspaper in the country, marking its centenary in 2017. The paper started life as the Trinidad Guardian on Sunday 2nd September 1917 by the newly formed Trinidad Publishing Company Limited.
