The proposal sponsored by Commissioner Stephen Jackson came in response to the death March 16 of Caddo Correctional inmate Casey Louis Simpson, 31. Caddo commissioners voted 7-4 in favor of Resolution 35. This vote now allows an independent investigation into Simpson’s death.

Louisiana House Bill 524 aims to decriminalize marijuana statewide and create a marketplace for distributors. States across the country are using marijuana to help with tax revenue. This revenue is used to help education, roads and other state needs. If passed, this would have immediate action on ending marijuana offenses.
