When I sit down to sip on a new bourbon, I am looking for a few things. Yes, I am looking for depth of flavor, heat, mouthfeel and all the other things that go into the experience. But I also want to taste the care, discipline, and vision that the distiller or blender and everyone involved put into each sip.

Resurrected from the rubble of a pre-prohibition fire, the distillery formerly known as O.Z. Tyler, alongside its master distiller Jacob Call, has reintroduced a fabled name, Green River, to the market with a pending Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Once the talk of the town, bad luck and a series of sales had left the Green River name for dead until recent times, when plans were made to bring the legendary name back.

After months of work and planning, La Cuna Tequila Bar will make its debut on Calder Avenue this weekend.
The new establishment that is taking a loving and traditional approach to tequila has set an opening date for Saturday.
Staff will welcome guests for crafted drinks and food from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on the day after Christmas.
La Cuna is roughly a 36-seat bar but will have less seating available because of COVID-19 restrictions.

The back story
We’re in the era of cult bourbons meaning bottles that are prized for their pedigree and can command prices in the hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. Many smart sippers are familiar with Pappy Van Winkle, the Kentucky brand that basically started this super high-end bourbon craze. But increasingly, they’re paying close attention to Michter’s, another Bluegrass State distillery that has earned a certain cachet.
