A Hazard man is facing numerous charges after an incident last week in which he allegedly fled from police and endangered bystanders, including a former Perry District Court judge.
According to court documents, on April 8, Kentucky State Police Trooper Patrick Bailey observed a 2011 Chevrolet Impala on Ky. 80 in which the driver was not wearing his seatbelt. Bailey, according to the arrest citation, attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as Michael Lee Royer, 38, of Krypton Lick Branch Road, began driving faster on Town Mountain Road.
Bailey wrote that Royer began driving at speeds of up to 85 mph in a 55 mph zone and Bailey contacted the Hazard Police Department and Perry County Sheriffâs Office to assist and be on standby just before entering the Hazard city limits.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) A new wildlife management area has opened in eastern Kentucky.
The Ross Creek Wildlife Management Area spans nearly 1,000 acres (405 hectares) across a bend in the Kentucky River near Lock and Dam 13 in Estill and Lee counties, the Department for Fish and Wildlife Resources said in a statement.
The former cattle farm was recently restored as a natural area and opened this month to public use including turkey hunting, officials said.
The Kentucky Wetland and Stream Mitigation Program, which is operated by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, acquired the property as part of a project to restore Ross Creek.
