Kentucky Study Identifies Ideal Sites for Microgrids and Nanogrids

Kentucky has 558 ideal sites for nanogrids and a dozen potential sites for regional community microgrids, according to a state study that aims to spur microgrid development at critical facilities in response to the growing threat of power outages. The Kentucky Regional Microgrids for Resilience Study was designed to help utilities, local and state governments, and industry stakeholders move from planning microgrids to building them. “We continue our efforts to respond to the rapidly changing energy landscape,” Kenya Stump, Kentucky Office of Energy Policy executive director, said May 6. “This collaborative project has helped our communities explore how they can better assess their energy vulnerabilities, specifically how to assess their critical facility power outage vulnerabilities and how they can plan and identify power sector mitigation activities.”

PADD Hears Update on Kentucky Unemployment Insurance

Hoskinson said most of America’s fraudulent claims are being paid to Nigeria. A state task force comprised of state and federal officials is working on other ways to continue improving the Kentucky unemployment system to prevent fraud. To date, more than 132,000 Kentucky residents have reset their pins and re-registered. Since mid-April, unemployment call centers have taken over 51,000 calls for assistance on claims. During the discussion, Hoskinson said the work search requirement went into effect Sunday for every person on Kentucky unemployment. He added they are the 22nd state to re-instate the requirement, following Indiana.

Kentucky Office of Highway Safety Joins NHTSA in Promoting Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

May 8, 2021 May 8, 2021 FRANKFORT — In recognition of May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) joins the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in reminding motorists and motorcyclists to “share the road” to help prevent crashes, injuries and deaths on Kentucky roadways. “Safety is a mutual responsibility for motorists and motorcyclists alike,” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “We’re entering the warmer months and that typically means more drivers may operate motorcycles on our roadways. With more than 95,000 registered motorcycles in Kentucky, all road users must stay alert and look out for one another.” According to NHTSA, per vehicle miles traveled, motorcyclists are approximately 28 times more likely than people in passenger cars to die in a traffic crash. Additionally, when motorcycles and other vehicles collide, it is usually the other (non-motorcycle) driver who vio

Scott County considers cutting needle program lauded for HIV reduction

View Comments AUSTIN, Ind. At the height of rural America’s worst drug-fueled HIV outbreak, Jerrica Hall stole and traded sex to feed her unrelenting craving for opioid pills she crushed and injected an addiction that gripped many in this town of 4,100. In 2015, she walked into an Austin trap house where she used drugs. Inside, a group of friends had their heads down, crying. Everyone had been diagnosed that day with HIV. She’d shared a used needle once, too, and soon caught the quickly spreading virus. With a 3-month-old child and a dearth of local addiction support, hopelessness led soon to an overdose.
