The 21-year-old women became separated from a male friend while bushwalking in the Lambs Head area near Davies Creek and the Kennedy Highway on Friday. They were eventually rescued after being spotted by the Rescue 510 helicopter and winched to safety on Saturday. The officers were covered in leeches by the end of their six-hour hike. Hair-raising moment a gigantic python is removed from the bonnet of a mum s car

A huge python has given a family a massive shock after it appeared from the bonnet of their car in the middle of the night. Nerida Bedwell was driving her ten-year-old daughter and 15-year-old niece on the Kennedy Highway north of Cairns when the snake popped out. Ms Bedwell said they began to panic after seeing the reptile but couldn t stop on the narrow winding road.  The scrub python was estimated to be two metres long once it was removed from the bonnet We were all very freaked out, she told the Cairns Post.  My older niece in the (front seat) jumped in the back of the car.

Queensland Traffic has advised the road is shut due to fallen vegetation, blocking both lanes. Kuranda resident Jeff Williams was one of many who missed a flight due to the road closure. I left here at 4.25am to get a 6am flight so I had plenty of time, he said, explaining that his flight was to Western Australia for mining work.
