DETROIT Given that the rest of this misadventure of a Twins season is probably going to be about teaching and learning, about mining success out of the failures of youth, perhaps Saturday s pair of losses to the Tigers can be considered a necessary calamity, a valuable debacle.

Miguel Cabrera hit the game-winning single with two outs in the bottom the eighth inning to give the Detroit Tigers a 5-4 win over the Minnesota Twins in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday.
The Tigers swept the doubleheader after winning the first game, 1-0.
With Jonathan Schoop on first base and two outs, Cabrera hit a popup to centerfield that should ve been the third out.
But following some confusion between Minnesota shortstop Andrelton Simmons and centerfielder Nick Gordon, the ball dropped, and Schoop ended up scoring all the way from first after an errant throw to the plate.

DETROIT (AP) Miguel Cabrera’s bloop single scored Jonathan Schoop from first base, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 5-4 on Saturday for a doubleheader sweep.
The second game was tied at 3 after seven innings, and the Twins went in front when pinch-runner Nick Gordon scored on a wild pitch by Joe Jiménez (3-1) in the eighth.
But the Tigers rallied in the bottom half. Schoop hit a tying RBI single off Taylor Rogers (2-4). After Robbie Grossman struck out, Cabrera dropped a hit into shallow center as Schoop raced around the bases.
He never looked back.
Baddoo s flying helmet often signifies a stolen base, infield single, double or triple. In this situation, he was determined to reach third. Even a small stumble after touching second base didn t stop him from a stand-up triple with two outs in the second inning.
The 22-year-old outfielder cleared the bases for three RBIs early in Saturday s Game 2, but 38-year-old veteran Miguel Cabrera played hero for the Tigers (42-51) with a walk-off bloop single into center field. He scored a hustling Jonathan Schoop displaying his best Baddoo impression from first base, giving his team a 5-4 win and a sweep of the doubleheader at Comerica Park.
