Wanderers coach Robinson embarrassed by VAR

Share on Twitter The A-League leaders were awarded a late penalty in a hugely entertaining contest on Tuesday at Parramatta s Bankwest Stadium. Oliver Bozanic slotted home the 83rd-minute spot kick to earn the Mariners a deserved 2-2 draw, following a lengthy VAR review which saw referee Chris Beath determine Keanu Bacchus had fouled Mariners forward Alou Koul. The penalty was just one component of a frantic finale to the match that saw three goals in the final 16 minutes, a catalogue of missed goalscoring opportunities, a header against the crossbar from Wanderers defender Tom Aquilina and a red card after the fulltime whistle for the home side s assistant coach.

Wanderers and Mariners play out four goal thriller

Share on Twitter Mariners captain Oliver Bozanic slotted home a penalty with seven minutes remaining to earn the visitors a point in a contest they largely dominated. The draw takes last season s wooden-spooners three points clear at the top, though having played two matches more than second-placed Melbourne City. After a Matt Simon goal in the first half, the impressive Mariners created enough chances to be well out of sight before substitute Bruce Kamau bagged two goals within four second-half minutes against the run of play. Gosford-local Simon looked set to be the hero, netting midway through the first half until Kamau finally drew the home side level with 16 minutes remaining.

IT is ten years since Rangers last tasted title glory as Walter Smith’s side famously won the league in seven minutes against Kilmarnock. Nobody that was at Rugby Park for the crowning moment or at Ibrox for the celebrations that followed could have imagined what would unfold in the seasons to come. From the depths of the Third Division, Rangers have now scaled the summit of the Premiership. It was christened as ‘The Journey’ and those seasons have been amongst the most remarkable in the club’s history. Here, Herald and Times Sport looks back on each campaign as Rangers made their way back through the divisions and faltered in the top flight before finally emerging victorious under the guidance of Steven Gerrard.
