Huge crowds rush to stock up on seafood in Easter lead up

Huge crowds expected this year at supermarkets as people stock up on Easter seafood. (9News) With seafood exports having significantly declined due to the pandemic and tensions with China, there has been a much wider supply for Aussies on offer, prompting discounts on some usually luxurious products. Coles and Woolworths are both selling rock lobsters for just $20 each, with fresh tiger prawns being able to be purchased at Coles for $22kg. The rock lobsters â imported from Western Australia â are normally sold for more double that price. In anticipation of huge crowds, Sydney Fish Markets have extended their trading hours on Good Friday, opening from 5am to 5pm.

Coles and Woolies bring back $20 sell-out deal

Coles is selling the lobster at a heavily discounted price. The deal proved so popular with customers that both Coles and Woolies had to impose buying limits, restricting sales to just four per customer. Now the Western Australia rock lobster is back being sold at Coles for half its traditional price and $5 off its current supermarket price. Woolies expects to sell 100,000 lobsters in the lead-up to Easter as well as 225,000 oysters. The lobster and other seafood sold at Coles is expected to total 250 tonnes this Easter, up a whopping 150 per cent on the supermarket s usual seafood sales.
