TROY, N.Y. â The Hart Cluett Museum in downtown Troy recently announced its new Executive Director Starlyn DâAngelo.
âAfter thoughtful consideration by the Museumâs search committee, the Board of Directors unanimously approved Starlynâs appointment as executive director,â Mark D. Shipley, Board president, stated.
âStarâs deep knowledge and experience in the museum field will secure our mission to enrich the present and advocate for the future by bringing the regionâs past to life,â Shipley explained.

DâAngelo, a Colorado native, relocated to New York to attend the Cooperstown Graduate Program where she obtained a Master s Degree in Museum Studies.

The state parks agency plans a series of virtual and in-person events in the coming days to celebrate Black History Month.

• John Jay Homestead State Historic Site: A Zoom lecture on the history of enslavement in the colonial-era family, starting at 7 p.m. Feb. 24. Registration available at johnjayhomestead.org

In honor of Black History Month, the Athens-Clarke County Library will host a virtual author visit with Gretchen Sorin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, where she will discuss her book, âDriving While Black: African American Travel and the Road to Civil Rights.
Sorinâs book reveals how Black families evaded the dangers of a racist society by relying on travel guides, Black-only businesses and communication networks to keep them safe on the open road, according to a January 2021 ACC Library press release.
