RRW: Wesley Kiptoo, Joyce Kimeli Win NCAA 5000m Titles

(12-Mar) Iowa State’s Wesley Kiptoo and Auburn’s Joyce Kimeli won the 5000m titles on the penultimate day of the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center at the University of Arkansas today, while the men of Oregon and women of Brigham Young took the distance medley relay titles with superb anchor-leg runs.

Kiptoo dominated the men’s race, running away from the field to win in a championships record of 13:23.77. Wearing black knitted gloves (he later said his hands were cold), Kiptoo started the race aggressively, splitting the first 400m in 59.8 seconds, and the first 800m in 2:01.1. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State has hired Nate Andrews and Sabbath Joseph to its football staff and promoted Cooper Williams, head coach Mike Norvell announced Friday.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to have Nate, Sabbath and Cooper in these roles on our staff,” Norvell said. “Each of them brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience that will benefit our student-athletes and staff. Nate won a national championship here and understands what it takes to reach the highest levels of success. Sabbath’s resume as a player and coach at one of the top programs in Miami is unmatched, and his passion is going to be fantastic for our program. Cooper has been with us every year that I’ve been a head coach and I’m looking forward to the positive impact he will have in his new role.”
