CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao (PNA) – The military and police have arrested the suspected leader of a lawless group long wanted for a string of murders in Maguindanao.
Col. Pedro Balisi Jr., commander of the Army 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade, said Saturday joint elements of the 6th Infantry Battalion, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (CIDG-BAR), and Datu Piang, Maguindanao police arrested Anayatin Duma in Sitio Tangguapo, Barangay Damabalas, Datu Piang.
“Duma is facing multiple frustrated murder and murder cases with Criminal Case no. 2003-018 without bail bond,” Balisi said.
Duma was also listed as one of the most wanted persons linked to local terrorist groups, under the joint orders on rewards of the Department of National Defense and Department of the Interior and Local Government, he added.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff General Cirilito Sobejana said local government authorities and residents in Maguindanao should remain vigilant following the encounter between the military and the Islamic State-linked Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) last Saturday.
“I enjoin the populace of and local leaders in Maguindanao to remain vigilant as we continue our watch until peace is stabilized,” Sobejana said.
The military and armed members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) clashed in Datu Paglas town, Maguindanao, Saturday morning. Government troops immediately took control of the situation.
According to the 6th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, about 20 BIFF members clashed with soldiers on Saturday in the town.

+ May 05, 2021 SIX members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) surrendered Tuesday, May 4, due to the continued military offensive against them in Maguindanao, the military announced Wednesday, May 5.
Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said the six BIFF members surrendered through the efforts of the units under the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade.
