KAKINADA: As Covid-19 virus is spreading to villages rapidly, many people are compelled to visit towns or nearby Covid care centres for treatment at hospitals or in isolation centres. With the urban scenario itself aggravating by the day, people from rural areas are at a serious disadvantage to access proper medical care.
Village CCCs formed to help those unable to isolate themselves at home
Thousands of COVID-19 patients are being sent to ‘Village COVID Care Centres’ (V-CCCs) in the rural pockets of East Godavari district, as they are unable to isolate themselves properly in their homes due to lack of space.
The initiative will help prevent further spread of the disease among family members, officials said.
By Friday, over 25,000 patients of the 31,673 active cases were in ‘home isolation’ and a majority of them are in the villages. The remaining patients are at hospitals and CCCs. In the villages, home isolation facility is a luxury for many patients. All the patients cannot be accommodated at CCCs unless they need to be under monitoring by doctors. “The V-CCC initiative has been launched on Thursday in all the villages. Joint Collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar has lauded the role of corporate firms in coming forward to donate relief materials in the time of pandemic.
Mr. Kumar was addressing a meeting after donating oxygen concentrators and other relief material contributed by the Reliance Foundation, State Bank of India and Red Cross.
The companies donated five oxygen concentrators worth ₹8 lakh, oxymeters, sanitisers and other kits at a programme held at Red Cross Blood Bank.
He said that State government would soon appoint a committee to coordinate the relief work during the pandemic. Red Cross vice-chairman P. Ramachandra Raju, treasure Ravi and others were present.

Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages handed over a batch of EverFlo oxygen concentrators to the Guntur district administration. The machines were imported from Germany and were handed over in the presence of Joint Collector A.S Dinesh Kumar, Deputy Director Social Welfare, Madhusudana Rao and Manager, District Industries Centre, AV Patel.

Students of medical, dental and nursing colleges to render services at hospitals
Collector V. Vinay Chand has instructed the Principal of Andhra Medical College (AMC) to immediately recruit doctors and medical staff in district hospitals as per the orders issued by the government.
The Collector held a review meeting with officials on the appointment of doctors, procurement of oxygen and its supply to hospitals on Wednesday. He said that there were 79 hospitals in the district. He asked the officials to ensure that there were no problems in the supply of oxygen.
