Islamabad : Envisioned to promote good governance at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), the Board of Governors (BoG) constituted under the now lapsed Medical Teaching Institutes (MTI) Ordinance has become part of history, with no constructive work to its credit during a tenure spanning eight months.
Elated health workers Wednesday observed ‘Salvation Day’ at PIMS, which has reverted to its erstwhile status of being an attached department of the federal government. They celebrated their victory with a prayer and distribution of sweets.

Token strike at PIMS from today if workers’ demands not met

Islamabad : Effective July 12, a three-hour token strike will be observed at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), leading to suspension of services in the Out-Patient Department and Vaccination Center of the hospital.
A decision to this effect was announced during a meeting of the Federal Grand Health Alliance (FGHA) here Saturday. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Asfandyar Khan and attended by representatives of the Young Consultants Association, Young Doctors Association, Nursing Association, Officers Association, Paramedical Staff Association, and Non-Gazetted Employees Association, all of whom expressed absolute confidence in the leadership of FGHA.
ISLAMABAD: The Young Doctors Association has categorically rejected the Federal Medical Teaching Institute Bill, 2020 as approved by the National Assembly Standing Committee on Health in absence.

ISLAMABAD: Can the federal government deliver on its promised reforms in the health sector through the Medical Teaching Institute (MTI) Act in the federal capital? The employees of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) believe this experiment is bound to fail as it is not pro-people.
Dr Faisal Sultan – Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination however, believes one of the core reasons of PTI s success in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the introduction of MTI system to serve the people of Pakistan, especially the poor segment of the society.
After the promulgation of Federal MTI Act 2020 in November last year, the PIMS staff formed a Federal Grand Health Alliance (FGHA) comprising medical, nursing, paramedics and non-medical staff. The FGHA is protesting against the introduction of this act in the federal capital.
