The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, on Thursday revealed that three persons were killed as the unit repelled an attempt to abduct its officer on duty.
The Acting Controller of the Unit, DC Usman Yahaya, disclosed this in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, DSC Theophilus Duniya, on Friday in Lagos.
Yahaya said that at 3.00 p.m. on May 13, some dare devil smugglers accompanied by thugs attacked a patrol team serving with the unit at Iseyin, Oyo State.
“Sequel to the interception, the officers were attacked by a mob who were mobilised by the smugglers.

A patrol team attached to the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Thursday repelled an attack from smugglers at Iseyin area of Oyo State, killing three of the smugglers while also evacuating two Nissan Pathfinder SUV fully loaded with foreign parboiled rice.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Friday by the Spokesman of the Unit, DSC Theophilus Duniya, the Customs revealed that the attack on the patrol team took place at about 3 pm on Thursday in Iseyin.
According to the statement, “At about 1500 hours of Thursday, 13th May 2021 some daredevil smugglers mobilized themselves with the help of some thugs; attacked a patrol team serving with Federal Operations Unit Zone A, who was on lawful duty at Iseyin.

Mr Yahaya said that at 3.00 p.m. on May 13, some “dare devil smugglers” accompanied by thugs attacked a patrol team serving with the unit at Iseyin, Oyo State.
“The officers, who were on routine patrol, intercepted two Nissan Pathfinder SUV vehicles fully loaded with smuggled foreign parboiled rice at Iseyin.
“These seizures made by the Federal Operations Unit Zone B at various locations within the zone have a combined duty paid value of N165,198,544.32,” as he urged smugglers to desist from the act.
At Kirikiri, 16,920 bottles of Agust-Towanka table water with N5.5m DPV allegedly imported from Asia were intercepted on Friday. The Customs Area Controller, Hammi Swomen who briefed pressmen also said the Command’s first quarter of 2021 revenue rose by 36.5 percent to N7.97 billion from N5.8bn in Q1 of 2020.
He said other seizures made include five containers with N55.7m DPV; 2,655 used car tyres, two vehicles with N21.6m DPV; and 2,772 (5-litre) kegs of Vegetable oil with N28.7m.
