The current public health orders in place in NSW are leaving families confused and uncertain about “reasonable excuses” to leave the house, particularly when sharing custody of children and navigating visitation arrangements, said Sydney family lawyer and director of Holmes Donnelly & Co Solicitors Laura Donnelly. With the lockdown for the Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong areas set to run until at least 30 July, she noted, there have been predictions it could last until September as COVID-19 case numbers continue to rise.

Facing court are Mackies Asia Pacific Pty Limited, which trades as ‘Mackies’, and company director Dmitry Myndreskou. The FWO commenced an investigation after receiving a request for assistance from a worker who was employed by Mackies Asia Pacific as a sales director for more than 20 years before his employment concluded last year. A Fair Work Inspector issued a Compliance Notice to the company in February 2021 after forming a belief the worker was not paid his accrued but untaken annual leave entitlements in full at the conclusion of his employment.
