NORTH STONINGTON â The North Stonington Garden Club was recognized by the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut with four awards for its outstanding contributions.
A Horticultural Award Club Citation was given for the âHorticultural Challenge-Growing from Seedâ program initiated and spearheaded by member Jennifer Hibbard, in which members were challenged to âgrow one for the kids and one for yourself.â Members provided seeds, growing instructions and pots for a giveaway to children.
A Club Certificate of Achievement in the category of Historic, Memorial and Public Gardens was awarded for the clubâs restoration of the dye garden at the Stephen Main Homestead, home of the North Stonington Historical Society.

The Daytime Gardeners of North Haven set up their holiday tree for North Haven’s first Winter Wonderland, organized by Jill DeChello, event planner and editor of the North Haven Magazine. The Winter Wonderland was sponsored by many town businesses and organizations and held at The Landing of North Haven.
Club members designed the tree using natural materials accented with bright red ribbons. The color theme was white and red, on the green background of the white fir tree. Dried hydrangeas, sprayed white, and dried sedum blossoms sprayed silver, were used for decorations.
Mystic Garden Club members honored by Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut
Two members of the Mystic Garden Club recently received awards from the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut.
Diana Stanzione of Groton received a certificate of individual achievement in the environmental concerns category for her work encouraging recycling and reducing plastic use, as well as her work in the herb garden at Coogan Farm.
Pam McGee of Mystic received a club citation award in the horticulture category for her work harvesting plants for the Mystic and Noank Library’s spring plant sale as well as collecting greens for the club’s annual winter greens sale.
