Recently, I met with Susan Copeland who has served as the executive director of the Polk Education Foundation since 2005, to talk about leading through crisis and making a difference in our community. Education Foundation of Lake County gives grants to local schools

This funding is a result of a matching grant program with the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations. The Consortium provided more than $77,500 to the foundation last fall after matching donations from private donors. The Consortium leverages public funds to provide a $1-to-$1 match, encouraging private-sector investment and involvement for local initiatives to advance student achievement. Lake County Schools educators submitted grant requests earlier this year to a committee of board members from the Education Foundation of Lake County, where the requests were reviewed and grant money was awarded. One Mount Dora Middle School teacher has received a grant for an online auditory comprehension skills program. This new program will work to improve standardized test performance for students whose listening comprehension skills are below grade level.
