ALLIANCE The city wants to enact policies to undo the effects of systemic racism.
Council members approved a proclamation Monday that calls for quickly prosecuting any hate crimes that occur in the city and increasing efforts to address and dismantle racism. The city of Alliance is committing to working against racism, ensuring Constitutional rights, dignity, humanity and existence of every person who lives, works and visits Alliance, Ohio, the proclamation states.
The move comes less than a month after a racial slur was spray-painted on the home of an Alliance City Schools principal who is Black.
The statement condemns the vandalism, stating that Alliance will not tolerate this type of action.
Alliance High School gun case bound over to Stark County grand jury

The Alliance High School student accused of bringing a handgun onto school property has been bound over to the Stark County grand jury.
Hogan E. Wade, 18, appeared Friday on video before Alliance Municipal Court Judge Andrew Zumbar, along with his attorney, Frederick Pitinii, and waived his right to a preliminary hearing.
Alliance Police arrested Wade on Jan. 20 on charges of inducing panic, a second-degree felony; illegal conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon, a fifth-degree felony; and possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
Wade is accused of bringing a .22-caliber handgun into Alliance High School. School officials were alerted about the weapon after Wade posted a video of himself brandishing it on his Instagram page, according to Stark County Jail records.
